​The world's largest single open-cut iron ore mine. Discovered in 1957 by veteran prospector Stan Hilditch, the iron ore deposit was named Whaleback because it resembled the shape of a humpback whale.

Please note that tours require a minimum of 10 passengers and last approximately 1.5 hours. Please arrive 15 minutes before commencement. Please note that fully enclosed shoes, long-sleeved tops to the wrists and long pants to the ankles are essential.  Three-quarter sleeves and trousers are not acceptable.  We suggest bringing drinking water with you on hot days. Please call us to arrange tours for larger groups. Children aged 0-3 years are free and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.​
